Seward Whalewatching

,

In Seward we booked a boat tour to see the neighbouring fjords of the Kenai Fjords National Park. It started rather early – but it was worth it! On the way we’ve seen sea lions, otters, seals and even a humpback whale. Finally we stopped at the end of a fjord in front of Holgate Glacier that flows directly into the sea. We had high hopes of big junks of ice crashing into the sea – unfortunately we only got to see some debris falling down the icy cliff.

On our way back the crew got notice of a launch-feeding humpback whale. As a photographer it’s always tricky to figure out where it might launch out of the water after 5 – 15 min dive time. But I managed to frame it somewhat nicely!

After the cruise we drove towards Homer at the far west of this whole Kenai peninsula. At 2 in the middle of the night, our ferry was set to leave Homer towards Kodiak Island!
