After a nice sleep in and a late, rich breakfast we were picked up by the guy that rented us our next camper jeep by Alaska Adventure Rental! After a short introduction, we were on the road again! Our bed always with us on the roof – what a nice feeling.
First things first, we had to do some grocery shopping information gathering again. This took half a day, such that we left the city at around 9 in the evening.
We headed down towards Portage, where we found a nice wild camping spot at a small lake.
Next morning, we had to fix our Swiss flag that we were able to get in a bar in Whitehorse. Now everybody can see from far away that either medical services or Swiss guys must be on the road. The jeep itself is quite neat. Not as practical as the Jucy since it didn’t feature a built in kitchen and was smaller – not too much storage space to make a mess. The roof top tent on the other hand is even faster set up than with Jucy. It can be entered from the inside of the car.
In Portage we first visited a Wildlife Refuge center with different animals walking around. For the first time we could really see moose, bear and elk close up. By the way, to clear up confusion with German translation:
Moose – Elch
Elk – Wapiti Hirsch
Deer – Reh
We then drove further south to Seward. On our way, we took a detour to Exit glacier and hiked a short trail to the end of the glacier. Unfortunately there was no time to hike up to Harding Icefield, but plan to do this after we get back from Kodiak Island! In Sewage we ended up camping in Lowell Point.
