Whalewatching Juneau

,

We also figured out, that we had to do another whale watching tour in Juneau. The boat was rather small, the tour rather short and we haven’t seen as much as the first time in Pacific Rim National Park. In the end we followed a humpback whale for a couple of dives.

Educational fact: When humpbacks are feeding, they dive for 5-15 min, chasing krill up to the surface and then either launch into the air with an open mouth or just appear in a less exciting, normal way on the water surface. This whale unfortunately did the latter. It then takes a couple of breaths and shows its tail with it’s last appearance before the next long dive.

The sea was rather rough, so we had most fun crashing the waves (also because we sat in the front row of the boat). On our way back, we also said hello to some steller sea lions on a boye.

In the evening we took the flight from the capital of Alaska to the “main” region of Alaska. We arrived in Anchorage at around 11 pm.
