Whitehorse on a horse

,

As we had some time left in Whitehorse, we decided to do some horseback riding. We found a nice place called Sky High Wilderness Ranch as a base for doing 2 day tours. During the first day, the weather wasn’t too amazing, but the ride was still fun. Apparently my horse Kluane was fond of not using trails and dragged me through a whole bunch of bushes and other vegetation. Using my rains I was only able to choose on which side of the trail I wanted to taste leaves and branches. A nice, large horse – rather old and experienced with an age of 20.

For the night we stayed at the Sky Ranch Lodge, where we had dinner (Christmas Turkey!) together with our host and 4 other guests. After that, we had the whole house for ourselves and enjoyed an evening in this comfy lodge, heated by wood and illuminated with installed gas lamps (although it didn’t get to dark). From time to time 150 dogsled dogs would howl – what an atmosphere!

Next day the weather looked more promising and my horse was replaced by Ben – a much younger male horse (6 years), but not any smaller. Marco was still friend with his horse named Cricket. The trip was very nice! For some kilometers we just cut through trailless, wild vegetation – for me much like the other day, but this time Ben was trying to avoid bushes!
