Yukon Canoe Trekking Day 6 & Carmacks!

,

To our surprise it was raining when we woke up. The only logical solution to this is to not get up for another 2 hours – what we did. But the weather didn’t change. So we finally decided to get up and put up the tarp once more and cook some hot noodle soup as breakfast/lunch. Spending more time under the tarp unfortunately didn’t change weather either, such that we were forced to pack everything wet, put on our rain jackets and pants and to start paddling our last remaining trip kilometers.

As a source of motivation we used the waterproof UE Wonderboom to listen to music and Peach Weber. During the remaining 41 km we had to stop one more time to empty our canoe from rain water. But then, after 3:45 hours we arrived at Carmacks!

Carmacks itself is a rather small town with 500 inhabitants. It features 1 campground, 1 hotel, 1 grocery store with gas station and 1 restaurant to serve tourists and customers passing through. We decided to go for the Hotel and spent quite some hours in the restaurant and the hotel lounge playing billiard and feeding the jukebox with looneys (1 CAD $ coins) – next bus back to Whitehorse was leaving 23 hours after our arrival 😉
