Leaving Hootalinqua behind us, we paddled further north down the river. With an average speed of 12 km/h, we advanced fast. But compared to the day before, the river got wider with the merged Teslin river. Curves got larger and the water calmer – at least the impression was, that the river got slower.
After a while we got to Big Salmon – a former trapper and prospector town. Today one can still see a couple of the old houses but nobody lives here anymore.
We found a nice camp just after a rather new, rotten gold dredge from 1960. As we set up camp, the wind got quite strong and seemed like blowing a rather dark, rainy cloud towards us. We decided to setup our tarp – fortunately in the end it was just a bit of spray rain.
