Vancouver Island: Southeast Coast to Victoria

,

We spent our first full day on Vancouver Island driving down the coast to Victoria. Our mission: Finding a pub by 11:00 with live TVs showing the soccer match Switzerland vs. Serbia! On our way there we checked out Chemainus (famous for its murals on house walls) as well as Duncan (famous for totem poles).

Victoria itself as one of the oldest cities in West-Canada, is said to be more English than London itself. We found that true only in a couple of places. One thing for sure, there were a lot of pubs and one was showing our desired game live at 11 in the morning – just in time for an early beer 🙂

After the successful match we headed out for some more sightseeing at Craigdarroch Castle. An old mansion built in 1890 by a successful industrialist named Robert Dunsmuir.

In the evening we made our way towards Port Renfrew in the south of the island and ended up on Juan de Fuca Provincial Park campground to spend the night. Just before the darkness, we managed to hike down to the coast to get a glimpse of a beach called China Beach.
