Barkerville Goldrush Town

,

After our 3 day backcountry adventure we are heading south again. Unfortunately we were too late reserving a ferry from Prince Rupert to Port Hardy on Vancouver Island – fully booked! And with one ferry every 2 days starting June 20th, our original plan isn’t going to work out :(. But then again, there are bears along the street that cheer us up!

Plan now is to get to Vancouver Island through Vancouver and checkout the Cariboo Gold Trail from Quesnel down to Lillooet as well as visiting Whistler!

First stop on the Cariboo Gold Trail is its very last and most scenic gold rush town: Barkerville. Protected as a Historic Site, the town is conserved, partly rebuilt and open to visitors as an open-air museum with actors living their lives like in 1863. We only arrived there in the evening, but managed to stroll through the whole town and see a couple of shows. We also had dinner in the old Chinatown part of town!
