Snowy, cold Icefield Parkway

,

After Banff we headed north towards Jasper National Park. These 2 parks are linked through the scenic Icefield Parkway. Unfortunately, weather started to get bad and hence we spent a snowy and cold night at Mosquito Creek campground. Time for a nice fire, warm food and a tarp!

Next morning was hard to get up with the overcast sky, snow and rather cold temperatures. But we managed and drove past Bow Lake and Pass:

After the pass, Peyto Lake was waiting for us. An incredible blue glacier lake:

Some km further north at Waterfowl Lakes, we decided to go for a short hike to the Chephren Lake – of course always hoping to see some wild life. This time it was kind of a wild chicken sitting just next to the hiking trail. We wouldn’t have seen it, if it didn’t cheep though.

Next along the road was the Mistaya Canyon. Impressive!

Last but not least, the highlight of the Icefield Parkway – the Columbia Icefield! We got on one of the last tours for the day and drove with the huge Ice Explorer onto the Icefield to enjoy a couple of freezing cold minutes on the glacier.
