On our second day, we visited Hope, a town originated during goldrush times. We’ve also checked out the Othello Tunnels, which were made for the old Canadian Pacific Railway (which is gone again). The rest of the day was all about driving east – next stop Kamloops, where we found a nice campground near a recreational site at the Pass Lake.
When we left our second campground to get back to Kamsloop and drive further east, we didn’t think of just getting as far as 2 km. At that point suddenly a light indicating a flat tire appeared. As we drove on gravel, there was not easy go notice anything during the bumpy ride. So we stopped to check all tires. And there it was! An airless tire – as flat as some people imagine earth to be! We quickly got to work and exchanged the damaged wheel with the spare one. Back in Kamloops, we’ve also found a tire shop to quickly fix the damage wheel.
On the road again, we headed towards the cluster of Canadian National Parks: Great Glacier, Yoho, Banff and so on. On the way there we stopped by Canyon Hot Springs to warm up after a rainy day drive (.. ah and there was a shower as well). Shortly after we ended up in Great Glacier National Park, where we planned to stay for the night and to some hiking the next day. Unfortunately all the campgrounds were still closed such that we just camped on a cozy parking lot 😉
Hiking in Great Glacier National Park was awesome. We walked as high as we could (there was still snow up there) and also tried to find the Great Glacier. Latter unfortunately melted away quite a bit – we couldn’t see it from the altitude we ended up at the end of this hike.
In the end of the day we managed the drive into Yoho National Park (including open campgrounds!)
